Do you have an Etsy (or other online) shop? I'd like to look around if you do!

I am so about to purchase this! I have been making your peasant dress that was a free tutorial for 0 -3 m and now I want to make more in bigger sizes! I love the pattern. I have a question....do you think I could use cotton flannel fabric and do you have a variation for lengthening the sleeves and making it long sleeved ?

Thank you!

Capturing - I'm so glad you've been enjoying the free pattern! I think cotton flannel would be a fantastic idea. I've actually been wanting to use the pattern to make some nightgowns out of flannel. The pattern itself only has short sleeved options, but to make it long sleeved you woudl just add the length you need to the pattern piece - if you check out our facebook page someone just posted a pic of the dress they made with long sleeves :).

Why does this say it's a free pattern until you try to download it?

Anon - I think you may be thinking of the 0-3m peasant dress pattern that I have offered for free on this blog, the Polly Peasant Dress & Blouse Pattern that is for sale on this post is a for-purchase pattern. The free pattern can be found here: http://www.sew-much-ado.com/2012/01/infant-peasant-dress-free-pattern-and.html

Hope that helps!

Have you noticed that the pattern runs a little wide? I made a 4t today, and it looked huge width wide, but the length was perfect.

Kayla - the style is meant to be fairly full around, but if your daughter is on the slim side, you can always cut out a size three for the width and size 4 for the length. The orange bicycle dress pictured above is a size four on a barely four year old (that fits the measurements for a size four), so it can give you an idea of what it should look like when worn. Hope that helps!

I've been making so many of the infant dresses with the free pattern that I figured I should start making some for when my little girl is older so I finally bought this pattern with larger sizes! Thanks for fun and easy idea! I've been really enjoying this :)

I want to make this dress for my LO's first birthday. I was wondering if it were possible to gather it around the bust to give it different look? That would also help with the pattern being wide. Would I need to out a larger top section, then gather it and add regular sized bottom section? Her birthday is Saturday.

Mariel - I would just add a casing to the inside under the bust after the front and back pieces are sewn together, and thread elastic through the casing. You'll end up with gathers on the bust and skirt that way :).

I have a directional print that I want to use, but I would have to make the folds perpendicular to the selvedge instead of parallel. Will it still look right?

Sew Much Ado said...

Sarah - If your fabric is 100% cotton, you should be just fine to cut the pattern out on cross-grain and not have any problems :).

Oh my goodness. This dress is so cute. I love how versatile it is that it can be worn as a tunic top as the child gets older! I just ordered some new fabric with the plan of making my daughter a dress for when she starts kindergarten in the fall. I had something like this pictured in my head. I just pinned it so that I can come back and buy it when the fabric arrives.

Thank you!
