Flashback Friday.

Here's this week's Flashback Friday:

I lived on a farm until I was 11, and my Grandma Leah lived just up the road.  She has a craft room in her basement that we all loved to snoop through as we were growing up.  She let me go through her stash and pick out all the fabric for this patchwork pillow, and I remember avoiding finishing it for years because I had somehow messed up the ruffle the first time around.  I guess some things never change :).

In the background is the old Singer that my Mom used for years and years.  She even got a new machine at one point and kept using the old one instead until a few years ago.  I loved that machine, I used it for everything too until I got my own when I was older.

I'm not even going to make fun of myself this time for how I look.  I'm just happy that this picture wasn't taken during one of my "bangs" phases which pretty much consisted of my whole growing up life.  A person with Symetrical OCD (that's what I call how I can't stand things that are un-symetrical) should never have bangs.  It's just not a good idea.  Maybe I'll let you see what I mean one of these Flashback Friday's coming up.

Ruby Lou Pattern Sale.

I've decided to make the Ruby Lou Doll Pattern available directly from Sew Much Ado. It is still available on Etsy as well, but now when you click on the "Patterns" tab above, it will take you directly to a page on Sew Much Ado where the pattern can be purchased.  I'm working on my next pattern, and although I LOVE Etsy, there's just something about keeping them "close to home" that I like :).

The good news for you is that the pattern is on sale for $7 for a limited time, only on this blog!

Linky Roundup.

Here are some of my favorites from last week's We Did It! Wednesday linky party.  Thanks again to all who played along and share your great projects!

Jamee made these fun bleached stencil shirts, and a tutorial to boot so you can make your own!

You can't get ANY cuter than this ruffle pillow and tutorial by my SIL Angie.  It's my favorite ruffle pillow I've seen yet (and not even just because she's my SIL and has the most awesomest hair ever).

Sumo's Sweet Stuff shared a tutorial for an infant car seat tent:

Check out this awesome felt teepee playhouse from Tales from the Seam Ripper (why couldn't I come up with a good name for my blog like that?):

Lastly, Sutton Grace brought an old chair back to life and I'm loving it!  Isn't the Ikea fabric perfect?

Flashback Friday.

Here's this week's Flashback Friday:

I know you've all been wondering where I got my impecible sense of fashion from.  Well ladies, wonder no more.  The little pouter above is my mom when she was 18.  If you knew my sister Ada you might think it was her, eh?  Wasn't she so cute?  Ever since I thought up the idea of Flashback Friday, I've been begging her for these pictures.  She sewed this red jumpsuit, and I think she actually liked it more than she's showing in the picture.

Apparently I also got my lack of moderation from my mom.  When she wasn't wearing form fitting jumpsuits, she liked to swing to the other end of the spectrum and sport what I mistakenly called a "moo moo".  She corrected me and said it was a "kaftan".  Either way, between the outfit and the wallpaper, I think I'm getting dizzy.  She sewed the kaftan too.  Doesn't it look like it would be heavy to wear?  She said it took about 5.5 yards of fabric to make, and that it really was super heavy!  She said to make these they would take a big rectangle and cut a hole in the middle for the head, and sew the side seams up to the arms to leave holes for sleeves.  Maybe we should start a new trend, huh ladies?

Thanks for the pictures Mom!  You're even cuter now than you were then!

MADE's 90 Minute Shirt Tutorial

I've been wanting to make one of these 90 minute shirts since I saw Dana's tutorial on MADE.  Today I finally got around to it.  I wanted to make sure I could get it all done in one sitting, so I made it for Weston since he's the smallest and it would be the quickest to make.  It was SO easy and fun to make!  Pretty close to instant gratification.  I want to make more, even for myself.  I used an old t-shirt that I don't wear anymore, and some knit scraps for the binding.

As you can see, I still have my addiction to personalizing things with initials.  I really wanted to stencil something on the shirt but getting to JoAnn or Michael's with my two lovelys hasn't happened, and I got sick of waiting!  Now I'm glad I did the intial, wouldn't it be so cute if I made Wyatt a matching shirt?

Go and make one, you'll love it!

Here are a few highlights from our first We Did It! Wednesday linky party.  Thank to everyone who participated!  I really loved all the links and had a hard time choosing which to feature!

Aren't these felt sugar cookies from Mia Moo Designs darling?

33 Shades of Green made this quilted potholder:

My friend Jenn from Compulsively Creative brought some early spring to us with this adorable dress.  Don't you love the fabric?

Last but definately not least, I thought these fused plastic snack bags from Life on 19th were so clever.

Tutorial: 10 Minute Toddler Leg Warmers.

Have a pair of knee socks you'd like to refashion?  In 10 minutes your little lady can be stylin' some new leg warmers!  Find the tutorial to make the ruffle skirt from a t-shirt here.

Description:
This tutorial will guide you through making toddler (or baby) leg warmers in -- get this -- 10 minutes!  You can't get any easier than this project, and you'll love the finished product.

Materials:
pair of women's knee socks (Target and the dollar store are great places to find inexpensive knee socks if you don't have any to refashion)

Directions:

Cut
1. Cut each sock off at ankle, forming a long tube of fabric.  Leg warmers can be made shorter by cutting sock off at a higher point above the ankle.

2. Cut heel and toe areas off of each sock.  This will form the upper band of the leg warmers.

Fold
3. For each sock, fold short tube of fabric in half, matching raw edges.

Sew
4. For each sock, place long tube of fabric inside of short tube, matching raw edges and right sides together.

5. Pin and sew 1/2" from raw edges, joining the two pieces.  Trim seam allowance to 1/4".

Unfold and Admire
5. Fold the cuff upwards and you are done!  Great job!  Head over here to make a matching (and by "matching," I mean "un-matching", cause it's cuter that way) ruffle skirt.

Wear them long or cinch them up, she will love to wear them either way with her ruffle skirt!

Flashback Friday.

Here's this week's Flashback Friday:

Aren't all my friends cute?  I love these girls so much (tear).  This was at my friend Elissa's wedding reception 9 or so years ago.  One of the sweetest girls ever.  I sewed her wedding dress (I still wonder why in the world she trusted me with that), which was an elegant empire waist dress with satin and chiffon details.

It looks like Amber on the left got some use out of the turquoise skirt too!

I also made the pink dress that I'm wearing.  I told you I've always loved pink :).  Why ever choose another color?  Look how happy I am in it.  I like my watch/dress combo.  Do any of you wear watches anymore?  It's kind of sad, isn't it, that since everyone has a cell phone now, no one needs a watch anymore?  I guess in my case it's probably good that I don't wear one anymore, if that's how I chose to wear it.  Jen and I (below) spent many hours in sewing class in high school not sewing.  I'm really not sure what we did, other than talk and laugh and give the teacher excuses why we hadn't finished our sewing "modules".  Good times.
