Crochet Headbands

While I was visiting in Canada the last couple of weeks (I'm finally home after a long drive on icy roads), I begged my sister Ada to teach me to crochet.  With the first headbands we made, she was very friendly and helpful at first, but before I knew it she was telling me to read the instructions myself and figure it out.  I think she even used the phrase "Give a man a fish..." more than once.  At that point I told her she was fired and that YouTube was hired.  For the record, I'm not a fast learner :).

For the first headbands, we used this pattern from 4T Designs, and here's how Ada's turned out:

Alright, you know I can't resist a good laugh, even if it's about me.  This is what mine looked like:

Laugh it up, I don't mind :).  I'm the first to admit that I'm FAR from perfect.  The pattern was great, it was the crocheter that wasn't so great.

For my second project I made myself figure out how to read the pattern myself and Ada and I got along much better.  She also let me talk her and my niece into being my models, which totally made up for any previous rudeness.  Hehe, just kidding, I wouldn't have given up on me a lot sooner than she did!

I used this pattern from Shana's shop.  Speaking as a beginner crocheter, it was a really easy pattern to follow, and I would definitely use it again.  It's even totally symmetrical and I would wear it in public!

My favorite part about wearing headbands in the winter is how functional they are.  I love wearing toques, but I hate having to wear one when my hair's done.  It seems like I just never do my hair when the weather's bad.

I think my next project will be to make the first headband again, and do it right this time :).
