The Secret is in the Bag!

Ever wonder how some people make their own bags that look so professional? That look handmade rather than homemade? Do you ever see bags that you know are made out of quilter's cotton but somehow still have great shape? Well, as the saying goes, it's what's inside that counts. Using the proper foundation to construct your bag is extremely important to the outcome of the finished product. The foundation includes what is inside the bag that gives the bag stability and strength. Interfacing and interlining are two of the most important materials to use when making a good foundation for a bag.

U-handbag has written a few superb posts on using different stabilizers for bags which I highly recommend. You can read them here, here, and here. Lisa, the owner of U-handbag, also has a great blog to go along with the shop, U-handblog. You really should check it out, she seems like such a cool person and has such an exciting life. I love reading about her travels and living vicariously through her blog!

Car seat strap covers.

My SIL Angie of This and That read my sewing-mind and made these car seat strap covers using this tutorial. Every time I go to the store I come home and realize that once again I forgot to look for some. I think that maybe I subconsciously "forget" to look because I've seen what they have in store, and they're usually not very cute. What a great solution, and it probably takes less time to make them than to go to the store and buy them!

My pink sewing room.

I am so proud of myself. I have been wanting to add another sidebar forever, and I finally did it! Now that I know how easy it was, I wish I would have done it a long time ago. I just have never taken the time to learn. I know that my blog has needed a major renovation since, well basically since I started it. Now I just need to finish the renovation! I am going to maybe alter my header, I think it's needing a little birdie. I am not going to change the pink aspect of it though. I have always wanted a pink sewing room and while I will have one someday, for now this will have to do! Oh dear, that's sad...

Glove animals.

I want to share yet another project on my someday to-do list. I love these little animals that are made out of gloves. It is one of the kind of fun projects that I could see my sister in law Maren make (no pressure). I had totally forgotten about them until I recently was packing my sewing supplies (it will be a total of 4 states in 4 months that I will lived in by next month... I'm now in Tennessee instead of Florida and Utah will be next and luckily should be a more semi-permanent move) and discovered the gloves I had purchased to make these. You can find the link for the instructions for the cat and dog here. You can also watch a video clip from Martha Stewart's show about making the animals.

Love A Tree Quilt.

I made this quilt out of the Love A Tree fabric line for a baby gift for my sister.  Okay, so my sister actually made it for another one of my sisters, but who really cares about the details anyway?  Either way, I think it's a cute quilt and I love the tree fabric.

p.s. here are two reasons why I've had to resort to lying about projects that I haven't actually sewn...
